Knobloch guitar strings are now available to buy through the McClaren Guitars online shop.

I was first introduced to Knobloch strings by Jonathan Parkin, who had been using their strings for a while through many concerts, competitions and lessons. He brought me a set to test on a McClaren Concert Classical guitar which he was using in a concert at Middlesbrough Town Hall. It gave me a good chance to hear the strings close up and from afar during the concert. The set we used was the Knobloch ERITHACUS BioNylon.
There’s very few places, if any, in the North of England that stock classical guitar strings, especially strings as high quality as Savarez, Knobloch, Augustine and D’addario.
Knobloch began life in 1971 with Jiri Knobloch who developed the first ‘Actives’ in Germany. In 2009 the company moved forward with Gilles Baudu, in Girona Spain. With the knowledge gained from Jiri Knobloch, Gilles managed to grow the business, shipping strings worldwide.
According to the Knobloch website…
Knobloch Philosophy
Our strings are created by musicians for musicians. We strive for comfort, good intonation and versatility in making our products. We understand that the strings are tools that enhance the sound of the guitar, and as a tool, they must be adaptable to every instrument, every situation and every guitarist. It is for this that we offer an extensive range of strings, thinking specifically about the needs of professional guitarists.
Material and Technology
To manufacture high quality strings, we always select the best materials to guarantee a perfect sound and great durability. The combination of these materials with the use of specialized machines allows us to ensure the uniformity, stability and precision of each string.
Quality Control and Packaging
Our strings are made and checked one by one by specialized staff. The limited production of strings ensures better quality control and the seal on the packaging gives optimal conditions for the conservation of the basses.
Environment and Social Responsability
With the aim to minimize waste, we have reduced the packaging for each set of strings. We also encourage our artists to recycle the packaging as well as to give their used strings a second life through projects like Second Strings or by reusing them for art projects or jewelery (especially our Silver Sterling line).
At Knobloch Strings we are not just concerned about the environment, but also for our social responsibility as a company. We consider our workers part of our family and therefore we give them flexibility so they can balance their work and family life.
We believe that happy people are happy workers and this positive energy makes its way into our strings

Which Knobloch Guitar Strings to Choose
Knobloch Strings can be split into two families for your Classical Guitar
ACTIVES
Knobloch’s signature and original line of strings, showcasing all the hallmarks of a high end string.
ERITHACUS
The Erithacus line of strings are the next step in development for the company. A more versatile string, and created for guitarists looking for a warmer sounding string than the original Actives range.
They are then provided with different treble strings…
‘CX’, ‘BIO’, ‘QZ’ or ‘SN’ treble strings
You will notice, each set has either CX, BIO, QZ or SN in their title.
‘CX’ will indicate the treble strings are carbon, which often give a brighter sounding treble and give a little more power to that string.
‘SN’ indicates that the treble strings are made of a standard nylon. From this set of strings you’d expect a very traditional sound from them.
‘BIO’ treble strings will give you a more natural and rounded sound. Knobloch say “These strings are perfect for guitarists looking to eliminate any hint of that plasticy sound that can come from standard Nylon strings.”
‘QZ’ is a nylon string designed to give a mellow rounded tone, with a powerful and intense sound. All of which will contrast with the brighter bass register.
